Dropping The Weight In A Safe Manner
Being overweight has become a common problem these days. The obese are trying all sorts of weight loss diets but the problem still persists. The following tips will help you to reduce your weight and remain healthy.
If you’re serious about losing weight and getting a better overall fitness, then you need to first understand how you got to where you are now. There is no short cut or miracle cure to help you lose weight or get fit. Just as you didn’t suddenly wake up one morning and gain 20lbs. You got yourself to the point you are now through eating the wrong foods, and probably couple with in larger amounts than your body needed. It was a gradual process and so will be the losing of that weight. It might feel like baby steps, and you may be saying to yourself “But it’s going to take for ever!” Well know it won’t take forever, but it will take time!
The most important change that you have to make is in your eating habits. You should also be very choosy while buying grocery. Rather than sitting idle, you should do some exercise whenever you are free. Learn how to prepare healthy meals. The list of things you need to change goes on.
You gain weight when more calories enter your body than your body actually needs. The opposite has to happen if you want to lose weight. So what is the trick to lose weight? It is very clear; take fewer calories than your body needs. Here you have to do some calculations. Calculate the calorie needs of your body and choose those food items which contain fewer calories. Over a period of time the fat that is already stored up in your body will be burned up and you will definitely shed some of your weight.
There are simple steps to losing weight. One of the first steps is to establish a routine exercise program that you will commit to. There was a woman I cared for years ago and all she thought about was food. She was obsessed with food. When we first started her on the program, she weighed around 350 pounds.
She had an addictive personality. Her addiction was food, but she was able to channel the addiction elsewhere – running. She soon became obsessed with running. She started off with shorter, smaller goals, but as her strength grew, she was able to run longer times and longer distances. The last time I talked to her, she weight around 215 pounds! What a great accomplishment! Her addiction was no longer food, but good old healthy running.
I’m not suggesting you throw yourself into any running program, but rather start off slowly, maybe with a simple walking program 4 to 5 times a week. If you set yourself a realistic goal, such as aiming to get up to walking 2 to 4 miles each time, this is great for starting out. Of course exercising alone is not going to help you lose weight, as already stated you will also need to change your diet. To begin with I would suggest you eliminate all meat and dairy from your diet. If you miss them, you could always substitute them with soy products. Also get rid of any high calorie foods that you usually purchase. For example substitute regular soda for the low calorie variety, don’t buy snacks that are high in sugar or fatty.
And finally, and this is a big deal! DO NOT weigh yourself any more often than once every 1 to 2 weeks! I know it’s tempting, but more people fail because they aren’t seeing the results they want as fast as they want! Remember all good things come to those that work for it, and the time it takes you to lose the weight is governed by the time it took you to put it on. So don’t lose heart, but instead remind yourself that you are doing this for you! It doesn’t matter how much weight you’ve lost daily, it is the long term project that counts.
