How to Deal with Cheat Meals
If you plan out your diet well, there’s no reason why you can’t add a cheat meal into the diet from time to time. Cheat meals can be a great way to indulge and satisfy some food cravings you are experiencing. And as long as you are making sure that you account for them, they won’t set you back in progress.
The danger comes when your cheat meals happen without you planning for them. And if find that you are having too many of these meals, you may notice that you start losing ground on your overall fitness. The scale may begin creeping upward and your clothes may begin to fit too tight. However, there are some things you can do to minimize the effect of a cheat meal.
Have a protein and vegetable day. The very first thing that you should do if you encounter a setback is to have a high protein and vegetable day the next day. This will help to make up for the high influx of carbs that likely came in, helping you sustain a proper calorie balance between the two days. Remember that one day of overeating isn’t going to cause weight gain. It’s day after day of overeating that will. Keep things in balance and you will be okay.
Do not do excessive cardio in order to cancel out your cheat meal. It will not work, and it may end up backfiring on you. The stress of an excessive workout will likely cause you to release cortisol which encourages your body to store up too much fat. You certainly do not want this on top of the extra calories that you ate the day before!
Let go of the past. It is easy to concentrate on the mistake you made and lose motivation to keep working toward your goals. Do not give up! Do not let one mistakes get you so discouraged and down that you stop trying completely!
Just try to identify what went wrong in your life that caused you to five into temptation. Maybe you did not sleep well the night before? Or you are having trouble in your relationship? Whatever the reason, try to figure it out so you will be prepared the next time.
