People who do not get at least 7 hours sleep tend to be overweight because of fatigue. People who sleep a lot are often depressed and overweight.

Many people find that having a buddy to lose weight with really helps. Having partners in your weight loss goals can help keep you motivated and make exercising more enjoyable. Another person can also evaluate what went wrong if you fail, and possibly suggest an alternative strategy. Finally, it can be exciting to celebrate together when you both make progress.

Choose to travel by foot or bicycle if you wish to lose weight quickly. In addition to cycling and walking, rollerblading and running can provide enjoyable and calorie burning means of travel. Your daily calories hang out in your body. Exercising can help to eliminate these calories and will improve your overall appearance.

Try taking a walk prior to eating dinner. If you do this, you will burn some extra calories right before dinner. You are also sure to feel fuller even when eating a smaller amount of food. This applies to everyone, even if you are overweight at the time.

Celebrate the smaller size you can fit into even if your weight has only declined slightly; get rid of your old clothes! Keeping clothing in anticipation of getting large enough to wear them again is detrimental to your dieting goals. Getting rid of these things will put it in your head that you have to go on with a weight loss goal.

Just about everybody loves to munch on french fries. You may be surprised by how many of your favorite unhealthy meals and snacks have delicious, healthy alternatives. However, if you want to eat french fries that help erase pounds instead of adding them, bake them. Create 1/2″ wedges or fries and toss them with a tablespoon of oil, a bit of salt and pepper, and your favorite herbs. Spread them out on a baking sheet, and pop in a 400 degree oven for a half hour. Use a spatula to loosen any caked-on fries, turn them over, then bake them for another half hour. They are good eaten with ketchup and are lower in fat, you will not even think about them being not being fried. These “French Bakes” are from Laurel’s Kitchen cookbook.

You could illustrate the progress that you make easily by taking photos of yourself before and after you lose weight. You will be able to notice your progress better than you would be simply looking at the scale. You can also show your progress by sharing your pictures with friends.
